I am traveling to New York City. Where can I buy good leather handbags – mid price not high-end designer?

I love handbags (like my mother). I want an elegant, distinctive bag of good quality made of soft leather. It does not have a high-end designer brand (probably can not afford that), but I will not be cheap and nasty either.
